FAQ
Getting started
What is Oru?
A free pocket game for India. You log small things you really did for waste, heat, energy and water, grow a pixel city, and wake the guardian animal of your region.
Is it free, and does it work on older phones?
Yes. Oru is free and works on entry-level Android phones, even on a patchy connection.
Do I need to make an account?
No. There is no sign-up or login. Your language choice is saved only on this device.
Missions and seeds
What are missions?
Four everyday categories to log actions in: Waste, Heat, Energy and Water. Each has simple, real things you can do, like sorting waste or fixing a dripping tap.
What are seeds?
Seeds are what logged actions earn. Actions checked with a photo or a QR scan earn more seeds than a quick tap. You plant seeds in your pixel city to grow it.
Does every action need proof?
No. A quick tap still counts, it just earns fewer seeds than an action you back up with a photo or scan.
Guardians and growth
What is a guardian?
Oru picks a guardian animal for your region based on where you are. As your pixel city grows, your guardian wakes up a little more at each stage.
How does my pixel city grow?
It follows the actions you log, not the calendar. A logged action plants a seed; keep logging and it grows from a seed to a sprout, patch, grove and forest.
Privacy
What data does Oru collect?
Oru uses no cookies, no trackers and no third-party scripts. Your language choice is saved only on this device.
Can I export my data?
Yes. Your record is yours: you can export every logged action as a JSON-LD file aligned with Mission LiFE and take it wherever you like.
Accessibility and languages
What languages does Oru support?
English and Hindi at launch, with more planned.
Is Oru accessible?
We aim for WCAG 2.2 AA in both languages. If something does not work for you, tell us on GitHub.
